Thought Field Therapy – My ExperiencePrior to my Thought Field Therapy session I was asked to think of an anxiety or problem that I’d like to focus on. All sorts of thoughts and questions popped into my head. What were they going to do to me? What personal information was I going to have to divulge? I was grateful to experience something new, but I also felt a little fearful of the unknown. Let’s just say I wasn’t prepared to talk about anything too deep or meaningful to an absolute stranger. I didn’t have any prior knowledge or ideas about Thought Field Therapy (TFT). All I knew was that it worked on clearing psychological blocks, phobias and anxieties. How it did this I didn’t know, but I decided I was going to put my skeptic aside and give it a go; so I went to a session, which pleasantly surprised me. TFT wasn’t intrusive, and proved to be a simple, effective method to clear some negative emotional blockages. Simply, I was asked to think of a situation that made me anxious or that had caused me emotional distress. Eugene Piccinotti from Thought Field Therapy Fortunately I wasn’t asked endless questions, which was a relief to say the least. Whilst thinking of my issue I was instructed to firmly tap the area under my eye with my fingers and continue to other areas of my body, including the top of my lip, the inside of my little finger and the side of my ribs. As the session progressed I also hummed a tune, tapped above my eyebrow and gave my distress a rating from 1- 10. The more I cleared, the lower my rating became. My mind was wondering how this was possible, as it seemed too easy and too fast to be real. This led me to ask how it actually all works. TFT is unlike traditional psychological and behavioural approaches, and is based on the idea that the causes of psychological problems are blocks in our energy field. Sequential tapping on certain meridian points on the body causes the energy to change and shift which in turn eliminates trauma and anxiety in minutes. The principles of TFT were first discovered by Rodger J. Callahan PhD over 18 years ago in the Inclined to believe that deep seated issues weren’t that easy to resolve, that they needed months if not years of questioning and exploration, I was suspicious that this therapy was too simple to work. This is where I was mistaken. Much to my amazement I did notice a change in the way I felt. When thinking about my anxiety I didn’t experience such an intense feeling of dread as I used to. In fact, I was more comfortable with my thoughts and felt a sense of freedom, as though a heavy emotional weight that I had been carrying around was lifted. One significant aspect of TFT that impressed me was the fact that it can be used anywhere, anytime and by anyone. TFT is a very powerful therapy that gets to the source of the problem, eliminating imbalances in the body’s energy system and restoring balance and harmony. Once you have learnt the TFT algorithms you can use them to deal with issues as they arise. Hearing this was like music to my ears. Nothing appealed to me more than having the tools to be self-reliant when dealing with my problems. If I ever felt stressed, anxious or even emotionally vulnerable I now had the ability to deal with the problem in a quick and reliable manner. TFT allows you to be your own healer and create a life where you have the freedom to help yourself and others, since the focus is on the therapy, not the creator or facilitator. This truly remarkable therapy has helped many people with a variety of problems, from relationship issues, common phobias like flying, to loss of loved ones through death. The only way to find out how TFT can benefit you is to try it. In a 2 day workshop you can not only learn to heal your own issues, you will also gain skills to become a certified practitioner. I certainly didn’t expect TFT to work, but it unquestionably did. Thankful to now have such invaluable information literally at my fingertips, I am less likely to be so fearful when dealing with life’s turbulence. Eva is a freelance writer.
